WASM – The Levant continues to be affected by a rare low‑pressure system with quasi‑winter characteristics, bringing heavy and thundery rainfall to northwestern Syria and Lebanon, with a significantly elevated risk of flash floods on Thursday and Friday.
Scattered showers will fall across various parts of Jordan and Palestine starting Wednesday and continuing through the end of the week. These showers are not expected to be heavy, except in limited areas of southern and eastern Jordan.
The intense summer heat breaks across the Arabian Peninsula, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq, with temperatures dropping below 40°C in wide areas of Gulf and Saudi cities. Nighttime conditions become mild to slightly cool in some northern regions of Saudi Arabia.
Quasi‑winter weather and cold nights will persist in the Levant throughout next week, accompanied by renewed rainfall, before temperatures return to their typical autumn averages toward the end of next week. This temperature normalization will coincide with a sharp weather disturbance affecting northern and western Saudi Arabia and Iraq — marking the true beginning of the rainy season in many regions.
The upcoming rainy season is expected to be exceptionally wet in many areas, based on the climate model data of the WASM Regional Center, which has issued the detailed seasonal outlook for 2026–2027.
