An Exceptional Heat Wave Across Europe and Arab Countries Bordering the Mediterranean

WASM- WASM Regional Center monitored an exceptional atmospheric phenomenon that resulted in a major thermal reversal between European countries and many Arab countries, especially those overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, where temperatures dropped several degrees Celsius below seasonal averages while Europe experienced some of the worst heat waves in history.

WASM Regional Center issued highly important scientific studies, through which we were able to forecast these severe heat waves years ago by monitoring the reality and nature of climate changes.

These climate changes caused a major quasi-climatic reversal between Arab countries and European regions during recent months as a result of complex climatic factors causing a rare circulation of the atmosphere.

Heat waves continue over Europe|
The core of heat waves is moving toward central Europe and parts of eastern Europe by the end of the month and early July, leading to the advance of moderately warm Atlantic currents toward western Europe that significantly reduce the intensity of heat and cause heavy rainfall after exceptional periods of intense heat, but this will not last long, according to our advanced and highly accurate climate model data, which has successfully predicted these severe heat waves for months, it is expected that heat waves will return to western Europe with great force during the coming months and may record exceptional unprecedented numbers. Heat waves have caused hundreds of deaths in a weather event that is the worst in Europe since 2003.

Moderate weather waves continue over the Levant and eastern Mediterranean|
Moderate weather waves continue over the Mediterranean, especially in its eastern parts, with the continued advance of moderate air masses toward the Levant, where typical summer weather has been completely absent and within an extremely rare climatic event, where temperatures remained several degrees Celsius below summer averages, May-2026 recorded the coldest May in 33 years in the Levant region within an exceptional atmospheric phenomenon coinciding with very strong heat waves affecting the European continent since May.

The deflection of the jet stream toward the Atlantic Ocean has caused continuous pushing of warm air masses toward Europe and resulted in strong heat waves

More powerful climate changes..
Current climate changes will intensify further during the coming months and years, as our center still forecasts that heat waves toward Europe will intensify further between 2026-2030 and reach their peak strength, causing moderate weather in the Levant region and an additional increase in rainfall rates that may exceed 20% additional.

WASM Regional Center detected a significant increase in rainfall quantities during the last 10 years in the Middle East, Levant, and Arabian Peninsula regions, estimated at 30-40% and these figures were exceeded in many areas.

The intensification of heat waves toward Europe is due to rare behavior of the jet stream over the Mediterranean, which caused it to deflect and split in the eastern Atlantic Ocean region.

However, high temperatures continued in Arab Gulf countries and the Arabian Peninsula in normal and seasonal ways, with an expected clear delay in seasonal rainfall in the southwest of the Arabian Peninsula.

The El Niño phenomenon plays a major role in regulating the current atmosphere with forecasts of intensification during the coming fall
