Cyclone Shaheen heads toward the UAE tonight and Monday in a rare occurrence

WASM - The WASM Regional Center is monitoring a rare weather event in the Arabian Sea and southern Arabian Gulf region. Hurricane Shaheen is expected to move directly toward the UAE and northeast Oman tonight and Monday, with forecasts indicating it will directly strike Fujairah, Al Ain, south Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.

The Category 1 hurricane is expected to downgrade to a tropical storm with wind speeds decreasing from 70 knots to 50 knots. However, despite this, its impact remains dangerous and severe on affected areas, expected to produce extremely heavy rainfall, strong winds, high waves, and risks of flooding and flash floods.

Eastern Oman and the capital Muscat were affected this Sunday morning by a Category 1 hurricane with wind speeds exceeding 120 km/h, causing severe flooding and flash floods. Omani meteorological authorities have issued warnings about this hurricane.

Hurricane Shaheen is expected to reach the UAE, southern Arabian Gulf, and southern eastern Saudi Arabia on Monday and Tuesday after gradually weakening. Remnants of Shaheen are expected to move toward south Riyadh and western Saudi Arabia toward the end of the week in the form of occasionally heavy thunderstorms.

Various countries worldwide are being affected by extreme weather and climate conditions resulting from global warming and sharp climate changes that have developed over the past two years into a "climate crisis."
