Early weather alert.. A polar wave begins mid-month and persists for extended days accompanied by heavy precipitation

WASM – WASM is monitoring a prolonged "polar wave" lasting many days with varying intensity beginning mid-month and continuing through at least the end of February, accompanied by heavy precipitation and snowfall in mountainous areas, coinciding with a significant temperature drop below zero Celsius in some regions.

WASM classified the weather condition as a "polar wave" due to its strength and duration over an extended period accompanied by precipitation across various regions, which takes the form of snowfall in elevated areas. WASM will issue all details regarding the weather condition and the severity of its impact.

The polar wave is expected to surge from the northeast of the European continent to affect Turkey with significant intensity, with expectations of record temperatures being recorded in those areas. This wave is expected to continue advancing southward toward the eastern Mediterranean and Jordan mid-month, persisting with varying intensity until the end of the month. Details will become clearer over the next two days.

Temperatures will drop on Friday with light and limited rain showers falling, then temperatures will rise again on Saturday. Beginning Sunday evening, temperatures will drop again and the weather will become cold.

The polar wave is expected to arrive mid-month and is anticipated to deepen continuously after mid-month through the end of the month, causing heavy precipitation and a significant temperature drop.

Changes are possible regarding this weather condition, as its intensity will vary during its impact, strengthening at times and weakening at others due to the magnitude of this polar wave and the length of its duration. Its impact is expected to be international, affecting all regions of Eastern Europe, Turkey, Iran, the Arabian Peninsula, the Eastern Mediterranean region, and Jordan.
