Jordan | As Summer Ends.. Heat Waves Remain Far from the Kingdom's Atmosphere

WASM – Heat waves and warm air masses have remained distant from the Kingdom's atmosphere since the end of June in an unusual manner compared to previous years, as a result of an unusual atmospheric circulation pattern that has caused these waves and warm masses to be pushed towards the European continent and parts of the Arctic region.

Therefore, temperatures will remain within their seasonal averages during the new week, with slight increases during certain periods, particularly on Monday and Thursday.

A noticeable drop in temperatures is expected later towards the end of the week, with further decreases anticipated during the last week of the month, resulting in semi-autumn conditions in many elevated areas and plains.

- Temperatures between the late twenties and below the mid-thirties Celsius in the capital and mountains..
Temperatures will range between 28 to 34 Celsius in the capital and mountains depending on the elevation and location of the area, and around 40 Celsius in Aqaba, the Dead Sea and desert areas, with the weather being slightly cold at night and in the morning in mountains and plains, which is within the summer seasonal averages.

A slight rise in temperatures on certain days..
Temperatures will rise slightly on Monday and again on Thursday, in a scattered manner, with temperatures reaching the early thirties Celsius in the capital and mountains and the weather remaining pleasant at night. It is expected that temperatures will slightly exceed their seasonal averages on next Thursday for a short and temporary period before dropping noticeably later towards the end of the week.

The weakness of hot periods is due to the distance of heat waves and warm air masses moving towards the European continent. The severe warming of the Mediterranean Sea helped lower atmospheric pressure around Cyprus, which caused the activation of western and northwestern winds that contributed to pushing warm masses away from the Kingdom. This reflects a study issued by the WASM Regional Center on the shift in the axis of the seasonal Indian depression linked to changes in atmospheric circulation.

"Early signs of autumn" begin early during the last week of the month..
Temperatures will drop noticeably later towards the end of the week, with the influence of moderately warm air masses pushing towards the eastern Mediterranean from northwest Europe, as a result of the continuation of Atlantic storms whose center has shifted towards the north-central Atlantic due to sharp changes that have occurred in the jet stream, particularly the polar jet stream.
These changes will cause an early drop in temperatures in the eastern and central Mediterranean region and southern and southeastern Europe, resulting in temperatures below their seasonal averages earlier than normal.

The WASM Regional Center will soon issue the seasonal weather bulletin, which continues to achieve the most accurate results regionally in recent years, and which is based on a qualitative climate model developed at the WASM Regional Center and operates using calibrated similar period methodology.
