Jordan | Atmospheric depression begins Friday with heavy rainfall and snow in the southern mountains

The Kingdom is affected by a low-pressure system that begins late Thursday/Friday night and continues through Friday and Saturday, resulting in rainfall and snow in the southern mountains that will be accumulating in conjunction with very cold weather.

In detail, temperatures will rise on Wednesday and Thursday, exceeding 15°C in Amman city for the first time in more than two weeks, then drop significantly on Thursday/Friday night with rain falling in the western regions of the Kingdom and snow in the southern mountains. Rain will be mixed with snow in the highlands of the capital, Karak, Ajloun, and Jerash.

Starting Friday evening, rainfall will intensify in the north and central regions of the Kingdom and become heavy at times, continuing until Sunday dawn intermittently. This rainfall will be mixed with cold and snow in the high peaks, while snow continues to fall in the southern mountains and accumulates in the high peaks of the southern mountains of the Kingdom.

Cold and humid weather will continue at the beginning and middle of next week, with rainfall expected to continue especially in the north and central regions of the Kingdom on and off. The WASM Regional Center is monitoring an expected polar wave at the end of next week and will issue all details progressively. WASM also issues an orange alert level for Friday and Saturday due to rainfall, cold weather, and wind activity, and a red level in the southern mountains due to snow accumulation.
