Weather WASM -
Weather will remain cold and humid throughout the weekend with continued chances of rain showers, particularly in northern and central regions of the Kingdom, followed by a slight and temporary rise in temperatures at the beginning of next week ahead of new "successive" atmospheric depressions affecting the Kingdom, reaching their peak impact during the second week of December according to data from the WASM Regional Climate Model, recently integrated with advanced W.DMM technology developed at WASM.
Slight and temporary rise in temperatures at the beginning of next week|
As a result of the Kingdom and the eastern Mediterranean basin being affected by the approach of the atmospheric depression, temperatures will rise slightly during the beginning of next week to become slightly below their seasonal averages, and the atmosphere will remain generally cold, particularly in mountains and plains, with clouds present at various altitudes.
Renewal of rain mid and late next week|
Rain will renew mid and late next week in many areas of the Kingdom, particularly northern and central regions, due to the expected impact of a humid atmospheric depression on the Kingdom, which is considered the beginning of a series of successive atmospheric depressions affecting the Kingdom, with peak impact expected during the second week of December. These depressions are expected to continue affecting the region for an extended period during the coming month, reaching several peaks during their impact, and updates will be issued continuously with details of these atmospheric depressions and the intensity of their effects.
The Kingdom is affected by positive climate changes that have caused a significant increase in rainfall rates in recent years|
The Kingdom has welcomed the current rainy season with excellent performance in most regions, but with temperatures much lower compared to seasonal averages. Jordan is being affected by sharp climate changes that have caused a significant increase in rainfall rates exceeding 60% during recent years. According to several studies that the WASM Regional Center will issue soon, we expect rainfall rates to increase further during the coming years coinciding with additional decreases in temperatures, resulting from a recent change in the subtropical jet stream driven from the Atlantic Ocean, which has caused easier access of cold air masses toward the Mediterranean Sea. This means an increase in the activity of atmospheric depressions and cold rainy conditions during the current rainy season.
The increase in rainfall rates is affecting most areas of the eastern Arab region, particularly the Arabian Peninsula, Egypt, Iraq, and Kuwait, as these areas are affected by the activity of humid tropical waves driven from the Indian Ocean at an increasing rate. The reason for this is the rise in temperatures of subtropical and tropical water bodies, as well as the decline and weakening of the subtropical jet stream.
The current rainy season will be characterized by significant activity of polar waves toward the Mediterranean basin, especially its eastern and central parts, in an almost successive and unusual manner due to severe bends occurring in the polar jet stream. The reasons for this are complex and intertwined, related to atmospheric circulation patterns, extreme and highly variable temperatures in the North Pacific, as well as unusual and unprecedented behavior of the subtropical jet stream as well. Such changes will intensify progressively during this season and upcoming seasons, as the Middle East and eastern Mediterranean region is expected to receive unprecedented large amounts of rainfall in modern climate records due to these changes in atmospheric circulation patterns.
