Jordan.. Continued dry conditions and strengthening easterly winds at the end of the week coinciding with weak atmospheric disturbances

WASM – Continued General atmospheric dryness and active winds with the expectation of weak weather disturbances during the end of the week and beginning of next week, resulting in intensified dry easterly winds and light and limited thunderstorm rainfall in some areas.

It is expected that the easterly winds will decrease tomorrow, Wednesday, and the winds will turn to westerly but temporarily, then the easterly winds will return and more intensely compared to previous days during the end of the week. Medium and high cumulus clouds will increase and limited thunderstorm rainfall will occur during the beginning of next week.

A significant temperature difference between highs and lows is expected during the day, with the temperature range sometimes exceeding 13-15 degrees Celsius, causing hot daytime conditions and cooling at night. This leads to an increased chance of seasonal illnesses, colds, and allergic diseases due to the dry nature of the atmosphere and the wind source.

Jordan is affected by a dry air mass pushed from desert regions located between the Al-Jawf and Ha'il deserts. This desert is characterized by extreme dryness and harsh nature, consisting of sand dunes and sparse vegetation, and is called the Grand Nefud Desert.

The reason for the dominance of this air mass is due to several factors, most importantly the activity of the Red Sea low-pressure system, which pushes this dry air mass from the Grand Nefud Desert. Western and southern European storms provide an opportunity for the dry Red Sea low-pressure system to become active and push dry winds toward Jordan.
