Jordan.. Deep atmospheric low pressure system with heavy thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday

WASM -  Renewal Heavy thunderstorms are expected to renew across various regions of Jordan, particularly the northern and central areas, starting from Tuesday/Wednesday night and continuing on Wednesday and Thursday in intervals, with their intensity varying—weakening at times and intensifying at others. This is due to Jordan being affected by a deep atmospheric low that is positioned near the Lebanese coasts and will then move toward the coasts of northern Palestine on Wednesday evening.

The peak impact of the deep atmospheric low is expected on Wednesday evening across various regions, coinciding with strong winds at times. The low's influence will continue until Thursday evening hours.

Generally cold weather and cloudy conditions are expected, with low clouds anticipated to touch high mountains, leading to a sharp decrease in horizontal visibility, especially during periods when rainfall intensity weakens.

Weather will gradually stabilize during Thursday/Friday night, and conditions will remain cold and partly cloudy over the weekend with scattered light rain showers falling. The atmospheric low is expected to bring large quantities of rain to wide areas.

WASM has issued an orange alert level due to heavy rainfall because of expectations for flash floods and flash flood formations starting from tonight through Thursday evening, with the peak impact of the deep low occurring tomorrow evening, Wednesday.

In scientific detail, the deep low acquired tropical characteristics due to its positioning for an extended period over the warm waters of the eastern Mediterranean Sea, transforming it into a subtropical storm affecting the eastern Mediterranean basin, particularly impacting the Lebanese and Palestinian coasts, while its effect on Jordan manifests as a deep atmospheric low accompanied by heavy rain clouds across various regions of the country.

WASM is monitoring the renewal of atmospheric lows and heavy rainy conditions during the Christmas holidays, particularly the last week of December, based on WASM's specialized climate model for long-range forecasts, which achieves unprecedented high-accuracy results in the region.
