Jordan: Deep low-pressure system and heavy rainfall from Monday evening through the end of the week

WASM - Jordan will be affected tomorrow, Monday, by a deep low-pressure system positioned between Cyprus and Crete accompanied by a high-impact cold air front that will begin to affect Jordan starting from the afternoon period and will intensify during the evening and night, with its strong impact concentrated on southern Jordan including the Aqaba region, Shobak, southern plains, and Petra. These weather conditions will result in heavy thunderstorm rainfall and the formation of flash floods and widespread transported floods in the southern regions. This weather condition coincides with strong dust-raising winds in desert areas, thunder and lightning, hail showers in various regions, and a sharp and significant drop in temperatures exceeding 10-12 degrees Celsius in a short period.

The intensity of the weather condition will ease temporarily during Tuesday daytime, but the weather will remain cold and partly cloudy with winds activating and dust levels increasing slightly in the atmosphere, and scattered rainfall will fall especially in northern and central Jordan. Starting from Tuesday evening and the night hours of Tuesday/Wednesday, the low-pressure system will position itself southeast of Cyprus, leading to a renewal of heavy thunderstorm rainfall in northern and central Jordan and southwestern southern regions later during Wednesday morning, and these weather conditions will continue until Thursday afternoon.

WASM has issued the red alert level, which is the highest level, for the southern regions including Shobak, Aqaba, Petra, Wadi Rum, and the surrounding areas on Monday evening and Monday/Tuesday night. The level reaches yellow for the capital Amman and northern Jordan tomorrow, Monday night, then rises to orange from Tuesday evening until Thursday afternoon.

In summary, the low-pressure system's impact is concentrated on southern Jordan and the Aqaba region on Monday evening, while its impact intensifies and becomes stronger in the north and center starting from Tuesday evening and Wednesday.

WASM advises following alert levels in various Jordanian cities, which will vary from one area to another from time to time during the upcoming weather condition. We have developed a precise system to monitor weather intensity with colors for various regions, which helps all sectors and the public know the level and intensity of weather conditions and helps various sectors prepare for these weather conditions.
