WASM – WASM Regional Center has issued a red alert level for a "strong" and comprehensive rainy condition affecting the end of the week, peaking from Thursday evening until Saturday morning, accompanied by large quantities of rainfall and coinciding with high rainfall intensity rates in most areas, concentrated mainly in the central and southwestern regions of the Kingdom, the Dead Sea area, as well as most desert areas with cold weather and temperatures below seasonal averages. The rainy condition coincides with strong winds during some periods exceeding gust speeds of 80 km/hour, which may stir dust in desert areas, especially with the beginning of rainfall.
The reason for this weather condition is due to a deep low-pressure system that will be stationed for a long period east of Jordan and north of Saudi Arabia, accompanied by high humidity and an unstable cold air mass.
WASM Regional Center recommends following the warnings issued by the Jordanian Meteorology Department and the instructions of Civil Defense and Public Security during this weather condition, and staying completely away from flood-prone areas and water accumulation zones.
Wednesday.. The beginning of the rainy condition|
The heavy rainy condition begins on Wednesday afternoon from various areas in the form of thunderous rain showers that are sometimes intense and of short duration concentrated in the north and central parts of the Kingdom. These rains gradually move to the southwestern regions of the Kingdom and intensify during the night, becoming heavy in those areas in the late night period and dawn and morning of Thursday, including the Aqaba region. Large flood risks are expected in those areas.
Thursday and Friday.. The rainy condition becomes strong|
This weather condition is expected to intensify on Thursday, especially during the evening and night periods, becoming strong as a result of the deepening of the low-pressure system southeast of Jordan, and coinciding with large quantities of rainfall that greatly increase the chances of floods in wide areas, especially during evening and night hours, concentrated mainly in central regions, the Dead Sea area, the southwestern regions of the Kingdom, and desert areas.
The intensity of the weather condition increases on Friday and affects all regions of the Kingdom including desert areas, with its concentration continuing in central regions and the Dead Sea, also including Aqaba, Petra, the capital Amman, and northern regions of the Kingdom, as well as all areas of the Levant, Palestine, and Iraq, coinciding with strong winds.
A "deep" low-pressure system is expected to be stationed east of Jordan and the northern Saudi Arabia region for a long period, coinciding with unstable air masses.
Saturday until Monday.. Remnants of the rainy condition|
The rainy weather condition gradually recedes with continued scattered rainfall in various areas on Saturday, but in the form of heavy thunderous showers. The weather remains generally cloudy and unstable during Sunday and Monday, with favorable chances for renewed rainy clouds in different regions of the Kingdom, followed by weather stabilization mid-next week and a rise in temperatures to warm levels but for a temporary period.
This rainy weather condition affects wide areas of Iraq, the Levant, Egypt, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia at the same time, making it a strong, wide-ranging regional rainy condition that will result in a widespread wave of floods in the region.
WASM Regional Center has issued "important" weather alerts, particularly regarding high flood risks, specifically in the Dead Sea region, central parts of the Kingdom, its southwestern regions, and desert areas.
WASM Regional Center has issued the monthly weather bulletin for the blessed month of Ramadan using data from the developed climate model and the only one of its kind in the Arab region.
