Jordan | Details of the Expected Polar Wave and Snowfall in the Coming Days

Label— The Kingdom began to be affected by the polar wave in the form of sometimes heavy rainfall in various western regions of the Kingdom since the night of Wednesday/Thursday, and these rainfall is expected to continue at the same intensity until Saturday daytime before the very cold part of this wave deepens, which the Jordanian Meteorological Department named "Jalmoud" due to its strength and intensity.

Snow will begin falling from Saturday evening and will intensify during the night of Saturday/Sunday in various mountain highlands of the Kingdom, coinciding with extremely cold conditions and temperatures several degrees below freezing with slight to varying accumulations on some peaks.

Snow begins Saturday evening and the night of Saturday/Sunday and continues until Sunday daytime|
Snow will begin falling Saturday evening starting from high mountain elevations, with the snow fall level rapidly decreasing toward elevations exceeding 700-800 meters above sea level and perhaps below that at times, with snow precipitation concentrated in most mountain highlands.

The peak of snow precipitation will be divided between the first night period, especially over high mountains, and the second peak in various mountain highlands and later after midnight until Sunday morning.

Intermittent light snow will continue during Sunday daytime in various mountain highlands amid very low temperatures and below freezing in the capital and mountains.

Expected accumulations are slight to varying depending on the elevation of the area, with increased chances of high accumulations in the highlands of southern and central Kingdom compared with northern highlands, and this is due to concentration of heavier precipitation in those areas due to westerly winds mostly or northwesterly winds in some periods.

Peak of snow precipitation and severe cold begins the night of Sunday/Monday and Monday daytime|
As a result of further deepening of the polar wave during Sunday and gradually, winds will activate noticeably, with strong gusts and possibly storms in some periods due to deepening of an atmospheric low near the Lebanese coast.

This will lead to renewal of snow precipitation over most areas of the Kingdom, especially central and southern regions except the Jordan Valley, Aqaba, and the Dead Sea which will experience rainfall.

Snow is expected to cause varying accumulations, being denser on southern mountains particularly the mountains of Karak and Tafila, and parts of central mountains.

The Jalmoud polar wave will gradually recede from the Kingdom's atmosphere the night of Monday/Tuesday in terms of precipitation, while its effects remain in the form of severe and sharp cold and occurrence of freezing in various areas.

Follow Jordanian Meteorological Department warnings|
It is recommended to follow the warnings of the Jordanian Meteorological Department and guidance from Civil Defense and Security during the coming period and stay away from flood-prone areas and be alert to snow accumulations in mountain areas and the occurrence of freezing and frost.
