WASM – The WASM Regional Center is monitoring sharp weather changes in the middle and end of next week as a result of the approach of polar-origin air masses to the Eastern Mediterranean basin, which is expected to cause the formation of weather depressions, widespread precipitation, and a significant drop in temperatures.
In detail, the weather will remain stable and sunny with scattered clouds appearing, with a slight drop in temperatures at the end of the week and increasing clouds with light rain in some limited areas, followed by a rise in heat at the beginning and middle of next week before the onset of sharp weather changes.
WASM issued an early warning of sharp weather changes starting from the middle and end of the second week of January 2021 causing precipitation and a significant drop in temperatures.
It is expected that the cold polar winds will deepen later after the middle of the current month, intensifying the cold weather and intensifying precipitation with it, and snow is expected to increase in some areas.
WASM will continue to issue more details and monitor expected weather conditions starting from the middle and end of next week, which begins on January 12-13 and intensifies in the middle of the month and after it, and these weather conditions are expected to continue at intervals until the end of January.
It is natural for the region to experience weather stability during the winter season, which is a characteristic of the Mediterranean climate, and this is not considered unusual but rather a regular weather event that recurs in most rainy seasons.
In scientific detail, strong storms dominated western and central Europe, causing dry winds to be pushed toward Jordan and the Eastern Mediterranean basin and eastern Europe and Turkey, originating from Siberia. With the deepening of this high-pressure system this week, it caused a rise in heat but a sharp decline in wind speeds and warm weather. With the expected dominance of a strong high-pressure zone at the end of this week over western Europe, polar air is expected to be pushed toward eastern Europe and gradually toward Turkey and then the Eastern Mediterranean and Jordan during the middle and end of next week, which will work to form a group of weather depressions, precipitation, a significant drop in temperatures, and an increase in the chances of snow after the middle of January.
WASM relies on flexible multi-model computational technology W.DMM and the climate model developed at WASM, the first of its kind in the Arab region, specializing in long and medium-range forecasts.
