WASM - The Kingdom is expected to be affected by a winter storm starting next Monday and continuing for several days, causing heavy rainfall, strong winds, and very cold weather in wide areas of the Kingdom. This comes after the country is expected to be affected by a rainy and cold atmospheric low-pressure system on Friday and Saturday, bringing good amounts of rain.
In detail, the Kingdom will be affected on Friday and Saturday by a cold and rainy atmospheric low-pressure system over parts of northern and central Kingdom and southern highlands. This atmospheric low-pressure system causes a significant drop in temperature with temperatures approaching freezing on Saturday/Sunday night.
Weather will stabilize temporarily on Sunday with a slight rise in temperature, due to the formation of a new, deep, and highly effective atmospheric low-pressure system west of Cyprus Island, which is expected to escalate into a winter storm accompanied by strong winds, severe rainfall, and cold weather, with its effects beginning on Monday.
Starting from Monday, the winter storm will begin affecting wide areas of the Kingdom, with temperatures dropping significantly and noticeably, heavy rainfall falling, and the effects of this storm continuing for several days.
Deep atmospheric low-pressure systems with high effectiveness are classified as winter storms according to international protocols adopted in the field of meteorology. The Kingdom has been affected since the end of November until today by several consecutive atmospheric low-pressure systems, which are expected to intensify noticeably in the second half of this month, as issued in the seasonal bulletins released from the WASM Regional Center.
