Jordan: Heat Wave Begins Sunday with Temperatures Approaching 40 Degrees Celsius

WASM – Jordan will be affected during the coming week by a heat wave that will cause a noticeable rise in temperatures, starting on Sunday and continuing until Thursday, then gradually subsiding during the Eid holiday period.

The heat wave will coincide with the formation of medium and high clouds, and occasionally thunderstorms in some areas, causing limited rainfall showers, active winds, and dust stirring, particularly in desert regions.

Humidity levels will rise during the period of the heat wave's impact, especially in the middle and late part of the coming week, which increases the feeling of temperatures higher than recorded values.

The heat wave is expected to cause temperatures in Amman to rise to around 39-40 degrees Celsius, particularly on Sunday and Monday.

It is recommended to stay away from direct sunlight, consume more cold beverages, eat fruits and vegetables, run air conditioning units at a temperature not lower than 23 degrees Celsius so they operate efficiently and reduce electricity consumption, and close windows and doors during the day to prevent hot air from entering.

Temperatures will drop during the weekend holiday and will be suitable for trips and outdoor gatherings, with temperatures recording around their normal rates for this time of year.

The reason for the heat wave is due to the deepening of seasonal winds into the Arabian Peninsula, which will cause heavy rainfall in various regions of Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The low atmospheric pressure over Egypt and northern Saudi Arabia causes hot winds to be pushed toward Jordan, and as atmospheric pressure rises over Turkey, this helps hot air to enter Jordan and the eastern Mediterranean.
