WASM – Jordan is expected to be affected by a heat wave starting Thursday, reaching its peak impact on Friday and Saturday, and gradually subsiding mid-next week. The heat wave will cause temperatures to rise to around 39 degrees Celsius in the city of Amman.
The heat wave is caused by the formation of a high-pressure system north of Saudi Arabia and south of Iraq, which causes hot winds to rush from the Arabian Peninsula region to Jordan and the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean basin directly. These winds are characterized by dryness and heat.
During the heat wave, it is recommended to close windows and doors during daytime hours, avoid direct sunlight, increase fluid intake, and wear light-colored cotton clothing. It is also recommended to water plants continuously to prevent them from drying out and being negatively affected by the heat wave. It is also preferable to set air conditioning units to only 23-24 degrees Celsius to operate at best efficiency and lowest electricity consumption.
It is expected that moderately warm winds will rush in after the heat wave mid-next week, resulting in a significant drop in temperature and a return to moderate weather, especially in high mountainous areas.
