WASM- Jordan will be affected by a heat wave starting tomorrow, Sunday. It will result in a significant rise in temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius sometimes in the city of Amman, and exceeding 45 degrees Celsius in the Jordan Valley, desert areas, and the city of Aqaba.
The heat wave will last for 5 days starting from Sunday until Thursday, then will begin to gradually recede on Friday, but the weather will remain generally hot.
An increase in humidity levels is also expected during the heat wave, especially during evening hours, reaching and exceeding 60% in some areas. This increases the feeling of temperatures higher than recorded, especially with expected high temperatures during night hours often exceeding 27-28 degrees Celsius, which intensifies the exhausting feeling of the heat wave.
Thunderstorms are also expected during the heat wave, especially over desert and southern regions, reaching limitedly to some western areas from Monday until Wednesday, resulting in rainfall showers, dust-raising wind activity, and reduced horizontal visibility in some areas.
The heat wave is expected to gradually recede on Friday, the first day of blessed Eid Al-Adha, but the effects of the heat wave remnants will remain in some areas.
WASM recommends staying away from direct sunlight and consuming more cold beverages and fruits, operating air conditioning units at temperatures between 23-24 degrees Celsius only to work at higher efficiency and lower electricity consumption and to avoid putting extra pressure on the electrical sector. Pollution levels will also rise, which increases allergy symptoms, so it is recommended to wear medical masks for those suffering from allergies and respiratory problems. It is advised to close windows and doors to avoid hot air entering and not to leave children and the elderly inside vehicles.
