A strong heat wave continues to impact the Kingdom, resulting in a significant temperature rise to levels around 40 degrees Celsius in wide areas including the capital Amman, and exceeding 45 degrees Celsius in the Jordan Valley and low-lying desert areas. Due to the length of the strong heat wave, its impact will be severe on all sectors, particularly agricultural and electrical sectors.
Temperatures in the capital Amman and the mountains will range between 39-42 degrees Celsius and exceed that in the lower neighborhoods of the capital. Hot and dry easterly winds are blowing over most areas of the Kingdom, stirring dust and dirt. This strong peak will continue until Wednesday and begin to gradually decline starting Thursday.
Humidity levels will rise towards the end of the week with the continuation of the strong heat wave, and this humidity will contribute to an increased feeling of high temperatures. Westerly to variable winds will blow with clouds appearing at different altitudes during the end of the week.
The strong heat wave will intensify again temporarily at the beginning of next week before completely receding from the Kingdom during September 4-6, with moderately warm winds resulting in a significant temperature drop.
Strong heat waves impact many sectors, particularly agricultural and electrical sectors. Due to the intensity of this wave and the length of its duration (which is expected to exceed 10 days), its impact will be felt on these sectors. It is recommended to completely avoid direct sunlight and increase fluid intake to prevent heat stroke. It is also recommended to adjust air conditioning units to temperatures between 22-24 degrees Celsius to ease the burden on the electrical sector and reduce costs.
Strong heat waves are affecting many countries worldwide due to climate changes that result in an increase in the number of these heat waves as well as their intensification compared to previous years. Many countries worldwide are suffering from waves of strong floods and historical torrents, while at the same time other countries are suffering from waves of severe drought. Climate change does not only mean rising temperatures or droughts, but also the occurrence of floods and heavy rainfall, as well as an increase in the number of destructive hurricanes as happening in many countries at the present time. An increase in rainfall rates has been observed in arid and semi-arid areas in recent years due to these climate changes.
Jordan | Heat wave continues until early next week with temperatures reaching 40 degrees
