WASM – The heat wave began to affect today Thursday
Temperatures rose noticeably in all regions of the kingdom and are expected to intensify tomorrow
Friday with further temperature increases, then become severe starting Saturday and continue throughout
next week with temperatures reaching around 40 degrees Celsius.
The capital and surrounding mountains will record around 35-37 degrees Celsius tomorrow Friday and will rise noticeably starting
Saturday to become severe, with temperatures reaching around 40 degrees Celsius in wide areas including
the capital Amman.
The heat wave will reach its peak strength on Sunday, then decline slightly in the middle of next week
before intensifying again at the end of next week. It is expected to recede completely around September 4-5
after which pleasant, cooler winds will blow and signs of autumn will begin.
Hot and dry easterly winds will blow during the coming days, increasing the heat of the weather. In addition, dry thunderstorm
clouds will increase, particularly in desert areas during
next week, which is typical during strong heat waves.
This heat wave is considered the first of this summer
which will be classified as severe and strong despite the complete absence of heat waves during previous summer months and moderate conditions compared
with previous years.
WASM recommends adjusting air conditioning units to temperatures between 22-24 degrees Celsius to avoid pressure on
the electrical sector, as well as increasing fluid intake and completely avoiding
direct sunlight.
