Jordan | Heat wave reaches its peak from Sunday through Wednesday with temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius

WASM - The heat wave continues to affect the Kingdom for the fourth consecutive day tomorrow, Sunday, with temperatures reaching 39-41 degrees Celsius in the capital and mountains and around 45 degrees Celsius in low-lying areas and the Jordan Valley. This heat wave will persist until September 3-4 before beginning to retreat from the Kingdom's atmosphere.

The capital Amman recorded a high temperature today, Saturday, approaching 40 degrees Celsius at the northern Marqa station and 37-38 degrees Celsius in the western capital, which is thus 6-8 degrees Celsius above its normal averages.

Hot and dry easterly winds will blow during the coming days, coinciding with the appearance of medium and high clouds in the evening periods, which will result in limited rainfall, particularly in desert areas, and active dust-stirring winds.

The heat wave will recede slightly at the end of the week while continuing until the beginning of September, then it will retreat thereafter and temperatures will drop noticeably and clearly, with the beginning of autumn appearing.

The recurrence of strong heat waves has been increasing since 2015, from one strong heat wave every 3 years to an average of 1.5-2 strong heat waves annually. Despite the absence of heat waves this summer, this does not mean they will not occur later, especially since strong heat waves have begun to increase their chances at the beginning and end of the summer season.

WASM recommends avoiding direct sunlight and drinking more fluids, as well as setting air conditioning devices to temperatures between 22-24 degrees Celsius to avoid pressure on the electrical sector.
