A high dew point of up to 25 degrees Celsius was recorded in the west of the capital Amman, and experts at WASM Regional Center believe the figure reached higher than that in the highlands of Salt, Ajloun, and Irbid, which may record a high dew point of up to 26 degrees Celsius.
Dew point is the temperature at which air becomes saturated at 100% humidity, and it is an important indicator for measuring the amount of water vapor in the air. Usually, the Kingdom records under extreme conditions a dew point of only 17-18 degrees Celsius during summer, but recent figures prove sharp changes that occurred in the temperature of Mediterranean seawater.
The cause of the high humidity wave is due to two important factors. First, a significant rise in Mediterranean seawater temperatures to record values reaching 32 degrees Celsius in some areas as a result of strong heat waves that struck the western and central Mediterranean, and the second factor is the occurrence of a sharp and severe thermal inversion, where a hot air mass dominates the lower and middle layers of the atmosphere simultaneously with the dominance of a warm and high-humidity air mass from the Mediterranean in the surface layers, causing warm and moist air to be trapped in the lower layers and a significant increase in atmospheric humidity.
