WASM- A strong heat wave will intensify starting Thursday and reach its peak on Saturday and Sunday next week, with temperatures ranging between 42 and 46 degrees Celsius in most Jordanian cities, including the capital Amman.
It is expected that hot and dry eastern winds will resume during the new peak of the strong heat wave at the end of this week and the beginning of next week, which increases the feeling of exhausting, extremely hot and dry conditions.
The strong heat wave will temporarily recede on Tuesday and Wednesday with northwesterly winds blowing to ease the intensity of the heat wave, then the strong heat wave will return and intensify, entering a new peak starting Thursday until Sunday next week.
Clouds are expected to increase during the end of the week and the beginning of next week, with thunderstorms forming in some areas, particularly desert regions, resulting in limited rain showers and dust-raising winds.
The reason for the strong heat wave is the presence of a high-pressure system in the north of the Arabian Peninsula coinciding with an extension of the Red Sea low from the south, which pushes hot and dry winds to surge from the Arabian Peninsula region towards Jordan directly.
WASM recommends wearing light-colored, cotton clothing and staying away from direct sunlight, increasing fluid intake, and running air conditioning units at a temperature of 23-24 degrees Celsius so as not to strain the electricity sector and to reduce electricity consumption.
The strong heat wave will gradually decline after September 8 as temperatures drop gradually.
