Jordan on Friday: A deep atmospheric low pressure system with strong winds, heavy rainfall, and snow showers on high peaks

WASM – Jordan will be affected tomorrow, Friday, by a deep and highly active atmospheric low pressure system accompanied by heavy rainfall mixed with snow, hail precipitation, and strong winds. Snow showers will also fall over high mountain peaks exceeding 1000-1050 meters above sea level in scattered periods with slight, limited, and temporary accumulations. These slight accumulations occur especially in the southern mountains of the Kingdom.

Wind speeds are expected to reach 50 km/hour with gusts exceeding 70 km/hour, raising dust in desert areas leading to a lack of horizontal visibility. Dense fog is also expected to form in high mountains, especially during the evening hours of Friday.

The deep atmospheric low pressure system will continue to affect Jordan until dawn on Saturday, with its effects gradually declining during Saturday daytime, after which weather conditions will stabilize. The service advises full alertness regarding weather conditions and staying away from low-lying areas, valleys, and the Dead Sea due to the formation of flash floods and transported floods. An orange alert level has been issued, reaching red in high peaks due to snow showers. We also recommend following warnings issued by the Jordanian Meteorology Department.

This atmospheric low is classified as deep and accompanied by severe cold polar-origin winds, which cause heavy precipitation, strong winds, and unstable weather conditions. The chances of thunderstorms are expected to increase during the morning and midday periods of Friday, as well as recurring at dawn on Saturday.

Weather will gradually stabilize on Saturday evening and during the beginning and middle of next week, with renewed activity of atmospheric low pressure systems at the beginning of February, during the end of next week.

In scientific analysis, severe cold polar winds are advancing toward the Eastern Mediterranean basin and northern Egypt, causing the formation of a deep atmospheric low pressure system in northern Egyptian territory tonight, then moving at dawn on Friday toward southern Cyprus, while continuing to be fed by extremely cold polar air, which increases atmospheric activity. The extremely cold polar air is advancing over the warm Eastern Mediterranean waters, which reach temperatures of 19-20 degrees Celsius. This coincides with the passage of a cold polar-origin front during Friday morning, a condition of atmospheric instability that further increases atmospheric activity.

The service has issued weather bulletins distinguished by complete stability and high accuracy due to its use of flexible multiple computational model technology, known as W.DMM. The service's climate model has successfully detected weather conditions over more than a month with great precision. Using these modern methods, we have been able to detect weather conditions early and maintain weather forecasts without any changes or disruptions.
