WASM- A new air depression is affecting Jordan, pushing from northern Egypt and positioning itself to the southeast of Jordan and over the Tabuk region tomorrow. Tuesday brings extremely cold weather and active easterly winds with formation of rainy clouds, especially in the south and east of the Kingdom starting tonight and continuing until Wednesday morning.
Dense rainy clouds are concentrated in the southern areas of Jordan primarily, with these rains mixed with hail showers and sometimes snow showers on the high peaks of the Shara Mountains, and these rainy clouds extend with moderate intensity towards the center and north, especially during Tuesday evening.
Easterly winds that are bitterly cold become active in various regions, and it is expected that their dryness and noticeable activity will intensify the increasingly very cold weather conditions.
WASM issued an orange alert level in the southern regions due to the weather condition and a yellow level in the rest of the regions.
In scientific detail, very cold easterly winds are pushing towards the Kingdom due to the positioning of the air depression in the southeast of Jordan, coinciding with the surge of humid winds in the middle layers of the atmosphere, which causes the formation of dense clouds and heavy precipitation, especially in southern Jordan. Jordan is affected by the cold sector of the air depression, or as it is called in meteorology the Cold Sector.
The extremely cold weather continues until the end of the week with expectations of renewed scattered precipitation on Friday, especially in the center and north of the Kingdom.
The WASM Regional Center is monitoring successive air depressions at the end of the month and beginning of March that cause heavy precipitation and severely cold weather.
