WASM- The Kingdom is affected by a winter storm accompanied by heavy rain, very cold weather, and stormy winds with gusts reaching 90 km/h and temperatures dropping to 2 degrees Celsius in high mountains, and lower than that in the highlands of Tafila and Shobak.
Rain is mixed with snow and hail sometimes in the central and northern highlands, and no significant snow shower impact is expected, but the impact will be from stormy winds and heavy rain which cause floods and flash floods and water accumulation inside cities, especially in the north and center.
Snow showers fall on the peaks of Tafila and Shobak mountains which accumulate slightly and temporarily on Monday, therefore this winter storm is characterized by heavy rain accompanied by stormy winds.
Heavy rain continues on Tuesday and Wednesday at intervals, especially in the north and center, with the chance of precipitation decreasing significantly in southern regions starting from Monday/Tuesday night, and thick fog is expected to form due to clouds touching high mountains and leading to complete absence of horizontal visibility.
"Stormy" winds ..
Wind speeds during the winter storm, which is expected to be the most impactful weather phenomenon, reach 55 km/h on Monday with gusts exceeding 90 km/h, and these winds cause dense waves of dust in the eastern desert areas of the Kingdom leading to complete absence of horizontal visibility, also damage is expected in many sectors, especially agricultural and electrical sectors, with some materials flying due to wind force and some trees being broken.
Heavy rain..
Heavy rain begins on Monday morning and continues until Wednesday and is concentrated mainly on the north and center of the Kingdom and even northern Karak area, and the storm is expected to bring large quantities of rain, and rain on Monday includes southern regions but for short periods.
Snow showers and severely cold weather..
Snow showers fall on high mountain peaks, especially the southern peaks of the Kingdom on Monday, and these snow showers are mixed with heavy rain in the central and southern highlands, but they accumulate slightly, temporarily, and limitedly on some high peaks especially the southern ones, therefore the expected condition is characterized as "a heavy rainy winter storm" and the chance of snow is slight and temporary.
WASM Regional Center issues a red alert level starting from Monday due to weather conditions, wind force, heavy rain, and cold weather, and advises following the warnings of the Jordanian Meteorology Department and monitoring the instructions of the Civil Defense and Public Security.
