WASM – Forty-degree temperatures continue until next Monday
and temperatures are significantly rising across various Jordanian cities, making this strong heat wave
the strongest in the modern climate records so far.
It is expected that today, Friday, and tomorrow, Saturday, will record temperatures exceeding 43
degrees Celsius in most Jordanian cities, including the capital Amman, and record-breaking temperatures are expected in
some cities.
This strong heat wave is striking wide areas east of the Mediterranean, Turkey, and Egypt, and it is expected
to begin declining on Tuesday, gradually retreating starting from next Wednesday.
The strong heat wave is caused by the extension of the Red Sea thermal low-pressure system from the south, which
pushes intensely hot and dry winds toward Jordan and the region, and this is the reason for the significant
rise in temperature, which has caused some cities east of the Mediterranean to record high temperatures, such as Holy Jerusalem, which exceeded 42 degrees Celsius.
WASM recommends avoiding direct sunlight, drinking plenty of fluids, wearing light-colored clothes, and using
air conditioning units only at temperatures not lower than
23-24 degrees Celsius to avoid high electricity consumption.
