WASM – The Khamsin weather conditions will gradually recede during Saturday daytime with active westerly winds picking up, causing a significant temperature drop tonight and tomorrow Sunday, especially in the mountains. Low clouds will increase and humidity levels will rise, with cold nights returning to the mountains and minimum temperatures reaching 12 degrees Celsius in the capital and mountainous areas.
Rain showers on Monday|
Rain showers will fall on Monday, especially in the north of the Kingdom and extending to some central areas, amid partly cloudy skies and active, cooler-than-seasonal winds, with temperatures dropping several degrees below their seasonal averages.
Heat returns to seasonal levels by end of week|
Heat will return to near-summer seasonal levels by the end of the week, reaching around 27 degrees Celsius in the capital and mountains during the day, but remaining slightly cool during nights and mornings (the usual seasonal pattern).
Monitoring a tropical wave and return of weather disturbances by end of month|
With a slight rise in heat before a tropical wave arrives at the end of the month, WASM Regional Center expects cooler-than-seasonal air masses positioned over the eastern Mediterranean to bring about the return of weather disturbances and increased chances of thunderstorms during the last week of May through the first half of June, in an unseasonable and rare manner.
Summer rainfall has increased over recent years, particularly during 2023, as a result of climate changes and unusual atmospheric circulation patterns. WASM Regional Center is monitoring strong rainy conditions in the Arabian Peninsula region during summer, which may be seasonally unprecedented due to an expected strong deviation of monsoon winds toward the Arabian Peninsula caused by an anomaly in western Indian Ocean temperatures and unusual atmospheric circulation patterns.
The cause of climate changes remains unknown, but the majority of causes stem from natural conditions affecting atmospheric and oceanic circulation patterns, and may also result from geological activity in various regions around the world. There may also be factors in outer space surrounding Earth that are important elements leading to clear climate changes.
Climate changes do not solely mean drought, reduced rainfall, and rising temperatures as commonly misreported by many media outlets that misunderstand climate changes. The climate changes that have occurred in Jordan and the Middle East have caused a significant increase in rainfall rates over recent years, prolonged transitional seasons, extended rainy periods, and rarity of drought seasons.
