Jordan | Stormy and heavily rainy weather with severe cold from Thursday evening through Saturday

WASM - The impact of a strong polar wave on the Kingdom begins tomorrow, Thursday, as it is affected by a deep and highly effective low-pressure system resulting in stormy winds, heavy rainfall, bitterly cold weather, and temperatures near zero Celsius. Snow showers are also expected to fall on the peaks of high mountains, particularly the peaks of Tafila, Shobak, Ajloun, and Karak on Friday.

In detail, scattered rainfall is expected tonight and tomorrow Thursday during the day, coinciding with temperature drops and active westerly winds. With the deepening of the low-pressure system Thursday night and during Friday daytime, rainfall intensifies and becomes heavy with thick hail accumulation at times. The low-pressure system continues to deepen over the Syrian coasts on Friday, pushing more severely cold and polar-origin winds toward the Kingdom, which will be strong in speed with gusts reaching 100 km/hour, causing strong dust storms leading to zero horizontal visibility in desert areas, and snow showers fall on high mountain peaks, particularly in the northern and southern peaks.

Scattered rainfall continues Friday/Saturday night and Saturday during foggy weather at times, as the intensity of weather activity decreases but precipitation remains continuous and the atmosphere remains cold. Scattered rainfall is also expected on Sunday with very cold weather continuing.

A renewal of the polar wave toward the Kingdom is expected mid and late next week, with renewed heavy precipitation, additional temperature drops, and increased chances of snow on high mountains. WASM will issue continuous updates with details.

WASM issues a red alert level for weather conditions on high mountains due to snow showers, wind strength, cold weather, as well as desert areas due to the strength of dust storms, and orange level in northern and central Kingdom and parts of the southwestern areas due to heavy rainfall, torrent formation, and wind strength
