Jordan | Successive weather depressions throughout the coming weeks with increased chances of snow at the end of February

WASM - The Kingdom continues to be affected by a "strong" rainy season as rainfall has significantly exceeded its averages, with performance surpassing 200%. The areas west of the capital Amman and Salt have completed their entire rainy season early following the recent snowstorm. The current season has been characterized by a strong succession of storms and weather depressions with temperatures below their averages, which reflects significantly on the benefit to groundwater reserves.

Successive weather depressions and winter storms are expected to continue during months 2 and 3 with increased chances of snow at the end of month 2. This comes after Jordan witnessed strong storms and depressions that brought massive amounts of rain and snow during January. January recorded three times its monthly average rainfall in the central and northern regions.

In detail, scattered and sometimes thundery rain showers are expected during Monday evening and will continue lightly until Tuesday morning, while light snow showers fall on the high southern mountains. Then the Kingdom will be affected by successive weather depressions from the end of this week through the middle of next week accompanied by heavy rainfall and snow on high mountains.

The scientific reason behind these strong storms, weather depressions, and the strong and unusual rainy season is the formation of a strong high-pressure system over a wide area of the European continent and North Africa, causing cold and polar masses to surge toward the eastern Mediterranean, the Levant, and Jordan.
