WASM – The weather will remain warm and pleasant during Wednesday and Thursday, with a noticeable drop in temperature on Friday and an increase in low clouds with scattered light rain showers. A severe cold wave will surge during the middle and end of next week accompanied by heavy precipitation and very cold weather.
In detail, the Kingdom is affected by a deep and strong atmospheric high that brings warm and stable conditions, but it weakens and retreats at the end of the week, leading to a drop in temperature and light rain. With the middle of next week, a severe cold wave will gradually surge, bringing heavy precipitation and increasing chances of snow in mountainous areas after mid-month. WASM will follow all updates regarding the severe cold wave expected to last for many days and significantly affect wide areas of the Arabian Peninsula, Jordan, Turkey, and the Eastern Mediterranean basin region.
February is characterized by rapid weather fluctuations and increased chances of strong winter storms due to intensified atmospheric instability called "baroclinic instability," which is the instability resulting from large temperature differences that lead to the formation of deep and strong atmospheric depressions. Atmospheric depressions are considered a type of atmospheric instability and do not differ from it.
In scientific detail, a strong and deep atmospheric high is expected to develop in central and northern Europe with values exceeding 1045 millibars, coinciding with the presence of severe polar cold air in eastern Europe, Turkey, and the Black Sea region. As a result, polar winds are expected to surge toward the Eastern Mediterranean region causing heavy precipitation, increased chances of snowfall, and a significant drop in temperatures, especially in the period after mid-month, which is expected to continue intermittently until the beginning of March.
