WASM- The Kingdom is affected by a low-pressure system accompanied by a very cold and highly humid air mass coinciding with strong winds and occasional gusty storms with intermittent rainfall from Sunday through Tuesday in the western regions of the Kingdom, including the highlands of Tafila and Shobak. Temperatures are expected to approach 4 degrees Celsius in the highlands of the capital on Monday and Tuesday during certain periods.
Wind gusts are expected to reach 70 km/hour during Sunday and Monday as the low-pressure system deepens over Syria, accompanied by very cold winds flowing from the north of the European continent and across the eastern Mediterranean.
Cold weather at this time of year is considered rare and does not occur frequently, but it will coincide with high humidity, resulting in intermittent rainfall.
Rain begins Sunday afternoon and continues intermittently until Tuesday evening|
Due to the high humidity of the very cold air mass accompanying the low-pressure system, rain is expected to begin Sunday afternoon as a result of the cold front, which will coincide with strong winds and rainfall, with heavy downpours expected at times along the western sector of the Kingdom. Rain will continue intermittently until Tuesday evening.
The peak of these rainfall events will occur during Monday evening hours and Monday/Tuesday night and Tuesday daytime, with heavy rainfall at times, particularly in the Dead Sea area and in the northern and central Kingdom and extending to the northeastern regions, due to the flow of additional very cold winds across the eastern Mediterranean.
Alert regarding strong winds and gusty storms|
Due to the depth of the "severe" low-pressure system over Syria and because of very cold winds flowing around its center, this leads to gusty storms, particularly with the impact of the very cold front during Sunday evening, with gusts exceeding 70 km/hour. Strong winds will continue on Monday with expectations of renewed intensity in the afternoon Monday through evening, before renewed rainfall is expected to be heavy at times during Monday/Tuesday night and Tuesday.
Very cold air mass "high humidity" and flowing across the Mediterranean|
Due to very cold winds flowing across the Mediterranean, this has caused low temperatures far below freezing in most areas except for high mountainous regions and some parts of the eastern desert, where temperatures are expected to reach 4 degrees Celsius at the peaks of the capital, and are expected to register near freezing at the peaks of towering mountains in the Shara highlands as well as parts of the eastern desert, coinciding with the presence of low clouds and thick fog, particularly on high mountains.
Frost formation chances increase on Tuesday/Wednesday night in limited ranges of high mountains and parts of the eastern desert, due to the nature of the very cold and highly humid air mass.
Temporary weather stability Wednesday through end of week|
Weather will stabilize temporarily from Wednesday through the end of the week, but with continued chances of light rainfall at times, particularly on Thursday, due to the continued flow of humid westerly winds behind the low-pressure system. The WASM regional center is monitoring a rainfall low-pressure system expected to bring heavy precipitation at the end of the month and beginning of December, with these successive low-pressure systems affecting the Kingdom expected to continue for a long period that may extend beyond mid-December.
