Jordan | WASM Regional Center.. Early Start to the Rainy Season This Year

WASM - WASM Regional Center operated the statistical climate model that we developed and obtained positive results for the upcoming rainy season, which is expected to start early during the beginning of autumn in Jordan, contrary to the previous 2020-2021 season.

In detail, WASM Regional Center is monitoring early rainy weather conditions expected to begin during this week, especially in northern Jordan, with expectations of intensifying weather conditions again next week in some northern regions. This early start is considered early compared to previous years despite the intensity of summer heat.

We obtained positive results during the beginning of autumn, especially the month of "October" - October 10 - where several scattered rainy weather conditions are expected to occur in many regions.

Despite the early start, WASM Regional Center expects clear rainfall interruptions during the upcoming rainy season, especially in the middle and end of autumn, with expectations of good rainfall performance during winter and better than the previous 2020-2021 season.

Regarding expected temperatures, they are expected to be higher than average during the rainy season, especially with expectations of several periods during which rainy conditions cease.

Months 12, 1, 2, and 3 are considered the most important months in Jordan's rainy season, as these months typically achieve more than 80% of the rainy season.

Scientific Details..
The climate model issued by "WASM," which was operated in the update of 12-9-2021, showed a strong high-pressure system over the European continent during most periods of the beginning of autumn until the first 10 days of November (month 11). This contributes to scattered rainy weather conditions over the Kingdom, eastern Mediterranean, northern Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, and Turkey. The high-pressure system is expected to contribute to pushing cold and humid air masses toward the eastern Mediterranean and Jordan.

WASM Regional Center will issue a detailed seasonal bulletin in the last week of September accompanied by explanatory maps and more accurate details about the nature of the upcoming rainy season, with expectations of running the model again after 10 days from now to obtain more accuracy. The model will also issue results for the rainy season in various regions.
