Jordan | Weather Alert: A prolonged heat wave begins Thursday and intensifies to become severe and exhausting starting Saturday

The National Center of Meteorology warns of a "strong, exhausting, and prolonged" heat wave expected to affect the Kingdom starting Thursday daytime gradually, intensifying on Friday, and becoming severe and exhausting from Saturday onwards with temperatures reaching 40°C in vast areas.

The maximum temperature in the capital and mountains on Thursday is expected around 35°C, then rising on Friday to reach 36-37°C, with the heat wave intensifying to become strong and exhausting, recording temperatures around 38-41°C in the capital and mountains, continuing at the same intensity for several consecutive days.

Winds will be variable in direction on Thursday and Friday, with northeastern winds in the morning and western winds in the evening, shifting to become easterly to southeasterly from Saturday onwards, blowing directly from the Arabian Peninsula region, making the weather very hot and dry.

Dry convective clouds appear from Sunday onwards, especially during evening periods, resulting in rainfall showers, particularly in desert areas, and activity of dust-raising winds during some periods.

The National Center of Meteorology advises caution regarding the intensity of the heat wave and its long duration, as this is considered the first heat wave of this summer and possibly the last as well. A significant drop in temperatures is expected after the heat wave, after September 4-5, with a gradual transition to autumn conditions.

Intense heat waves typically affect the late summer season, which has been a characteristic of recent years, which have also been similar in showing a significant increase in rainfall rates during rainy seasons.
