Jordan | Weather Alert.. Atmospheric Low and "Severe" Weather Fluctuations with Heavy Rainfall at Week's End

WASM - Jordan will be affected by a "deep-centered" atmospheric low-pressure system at the end of this week, with its impact beginning in the form of rising temperatures and active winds on Wednesday, with temperatures approaching 25 degrees Celsius in Amman city coinciding with wind activity and dust storms especially in desert areas.

Starting from Thursday, wind activity increases and the atmospheric low deepens over northwest Syria, and a cold air front that is "highly effective and deepening in atmospheric layers" gradually begins to affect various regions of the kingdom, bringing strong winds that exceed gusts of 80 km/hour causing heavy dust storms in desert areas, and with nighttime hours temperatures drop sharply to around 5 degrees Celsius in Amman city with a difference exceeding 20 degrees Celsius compared to Wednesday daytime.

"Heavy" rainfall is expected Thursday night/Friday and until Friday morning causing the formation of torrents and widespread transported floods as a result of increased rainfall intensity rates during some periods, and the weather condition affects various regions including southern areas.

Precipitation is expected to be mixed with snow falling in the high southern mountains especially Friday dawn and morning, and WASM regional center monitors changes in weather conditions.

The type of atmospheric low is considered "deeply Mediterranean," acquiring some characteristics of khamsin lows, and it deepens Thursday night over northern Syria.

WASM regional center monitors further "sharp" weather fluctuations during mid-month and thereafter, and atmospheric low activity and heavy rainfall increase during this month, coinciding with strong winds and sharp fluctuations in temperatures.

WASM issued an "orange" alert level for the strength of weather conditions at the end of the week and especially during the peak impact of the atmospheric low during Thursday night/Friday hours and Friday dawn and morning.
