Jordan | Weather Alert.. Deep Low Pressure System and "Severe" Weather Fluctuations with Heavy Rainfall Thursday/Friday Night

WASM- Jordan will be affected by a "deep" atmospheric low-pressure system positioned over the Cyprus basin on Thursday, which will deepen over northern Syria, causing heavy rainfall, "stormy" winds, and a significant drop in temperatures.

The impact of the atmospheric low-pressure system will begin in the form of a significant rise in temperature tomorrow, Wednesday, to exceed 25 degrees Celsius in Amman, and gradually the low-pressure system will deepen on Thursday over the Cyprus basin, causing strong wind activity and a noticeable and significant drop in temperature on Thursday evening and the beginning of scattered rainfall.

Gradually, a cold air front "deepening in the upper atmospheric layers" will affect the region, accompanied by heavy rainfall and "stormy" winds with gusts approaching 100 km/hour from midnight Thursday/Friday until Friday morning, with rainfall mixed with snow and hail in the peaks of southern highlands at dawn and Friday morning. Temperatures will drop noticeably and "sharply" to fall below 5 degrees Celsius in the capital Amman with a difference exceeding 20 degrees Celsius compared to Wednesday afternoon.

Flash floods and widespread transported floods are expected Friday at dawn due to heavy rainfall in the region. The impact of the low-pressure system will begin to gradually recede during Friday morning, and weather will stabilize gradually after Friday afternoon, but the weather will remain cold.

The atmospheric low-pressure system is classified as a "deep Mediterranean low," which is expected to gradually deepen around the Cyprus basin on Thursday.

WASM advises caution regarding weather conditions and complete avoidance of low-lying areas and valleys, and to follow the instructions of Civil Defense and General Security. It is also advised to monitor warnings from the Jordanian Meteorology Department.

WASM issues an "orange" alert level for weather conditions from Thursday night until Friday morning, due to heavy rainfall, strong winds, and sharp fluctuations in temperatures.

Weather is expected to stabilize on Saturday, with temperatures rising noticeably on Sunday, with expectations of renewed "sharp" weather fluctuations next week.
