Jordan | Weather Alert: Heat wave begins tomorrow Thursday and intensifies to become "severe" from Saturday for several days

Heat wave alert - A heat wave begins tomorrow, Thursday, with temperatures rising noticeably and reaching around 35-36 degrees Celsius in the capital and surrounding mountains, increasing further on Friday, then becoming intense on Saturday and throughout the following week with varying severity, with temperatures remaining around 40-42 degrees Celsius in the capital and mountains.

The heat wave is classified as "severe" due to the noticeable rise in temperature and the length of its duration, which is expected to last around 8-10 days, and this heat wave is driven from the Arabian Peninsula region causing exhausting and extremely hot conditions.

The intense heat wave will weaken slightly during the middle of the following week but with a temporary increase in humidity levels during daytime hours before intensifying again to become strong and reach its peak during the end of the following week.

Very hot and extremely dry easterly winds will blow during the following week, raising temperatures to levels of 40 degrees Celsius in wide areas of the Kingdom and around 43 degrees Celsius in desert regions, valleys, and low-lying areas.

The absence of heat waves throughout this summer does not mean they will not occur later, as the recurrence of severe heat waves in Jordan has been increasing at the end of the summer season as observed in recent years, and the recurrence of strong heat waves annually has reached a rate of 1.5 strong heat waves per year since 2015 compared to a rate of one strong heat wave every three years before 2015, and this is a result of acute climate changes and rising temperatures in many regions of the world.
