Jordan will be affected by a heat wave expected to begin on Friday with temperatures rising significantly and noticeably, continuing through the end of August. Temperatures are expected to reach the forties Celsius in wide areas of Jordan.
The weather is expected to be typical summer conditions, moderate mostly in the mountainous areas during Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures rising noticeably on Thursday and hot conditions returning ahead of the heat wave. Starting Friday, the heat wave begins and intensifies on Saturday and throughout the coming week.
Jordan and the Eastern Mediterranean region have recorded "elevated and continuous" temperatures since the beginning of August without any significant decline, with temperatures exceeding their normal averages significantly, which has caused fires in Palestinian forests.
The maximum temperature in the capital Amman is expected to be around 32 Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday with mild weather during the night, with temperatures close to their averages. Starting Thursday, it rises to 34 Celsius and then to 37 Celsius on Friday.
The temperature approaches 40 Celsius in the capital during the impact of the heat wave throughout the coming week, with minimum temperatures rising to around 29 Celsius, and temperatures approaching 50 Celsius in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea region, and Aqaba.
Due to the strength of the heat wave and its continuation for a long period and the lack of significant temperature decline for many days, this is expected to increase the risk of dry grass and tree fires in some areas of Jordan.
WASM recommends following all general guidelines, drinking cold fluids, avoiding direct sunlight, and monitoring warnings from the Jordanian Meteorological Department.
