Jordan | Weather Alert.. Heat Wave Intensifies Wednesday and Becomes "Severe" Thursday

WASM - The heat wave will intensify tomorrow, Wednesday, and will reach the level of a "strong heat wave" starting Thursday and throughout the weekend, after the heat wave renewed today, Tuesday, with maximum temperatures in the capital Amman reaching around 36 degrees Celsius.

The heat wave is expected to be "strong" during the weekend, with temperatures during Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday reaching around 40-41 degrees Celsius in the capital Amman, and 45 degrees Celsius in low-lying areas, the Jordan Valley, Aqaba, and the Dead Sea, with upcoming nights being warmer than usual.

The "strong" heat wave will continue throughout the coming week with varying intensity, becoming slightly weaker at times before intensifying significantly and reaching its peak strength during the beginning of September.

The current heat wave began last Friday, temporarily receded on Monday, then returned and renewed today, Tuesday, which is expected to reach the level of a "strong heat wave" by the end of this week.

WASM recommends following the warnings of the Jordanian Meteorology Department, as well as increasing fluid intake, avoiding direct sunlight, and running air conditioning units at temperatures not lower than 22-24 degrees Celsius to avoid pressure on the electricity sector.

The cause of the heat wave affecting the region is due to the rush of hot winds from the Arabian Peninsula, which are expected to push next week from the deserts of Tabuk and Hail directly towards Jordan due to the extension of the Red Sea low-pressure system that drives hot winds towards the kingdom. The strong heat wave is expected to extend to cover the Mediterranean region, Turkey, Cyprus, and the Levant, and continue over northern Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and vast areas.
