WASM- The Kingdom is being affected by a low-pressure system positioned near the coasts of Palestine from Thursday until Friday, accompanied by a polar air mass that is extremely cold, resulting in heavy to intense rainfall and dense accumulating snow on the southern mountains with expectations of "thick accumulations on some high mountain peaks in the southern part of the country" and it is not ruled out that it will escalate to "a local blizzard on the southern mountain peaks" based on the standards issued by the World Meteorological Organization for defining blizzards.
Snow is expected on high mountain elevations in the central and northern regions of the Kingdom after midnight on the "Thursday/Friday" night..
Snow will begin falling on mountain elevations starting from late evening hours on Thursday on the highlands of the north and center of the Kingdom. These precipitations will be denser on high mountains and accumulating above 1100 meters above sea level, which includes the highlands of Ajloun, Jerash, and the high peaks of Amman. These snows will turn into heavy rainfall starting from Friday afternoon coinciding with strong winds and gusts that exceed speeds of 80 km/hour.
Dense and accumulating snow on the southern mountains on Friday..
Gradually, with the late morning hours and afternoon of Friday, heavy precipitation moves toward the southern part of the Kingdom, and will be in the form of dense and accumulating snow on high mountains. It is expected that this snow will cause road closures and a noticeable impact on aspects of public life, and these snow precipitations will continue until Friday evening.
It is expected that some southern peaks will record "high thicknesses" especially the highlands of Shoubak and Tafilah, as a result of heavy and continuous precipitation and coinciding with severely cold weather conditions.
Rain continues at intervals until the middle of next week..
As the winter storm subsides on Saturday and temperatures rise, rainfall continues in the form of showers on scattered intervals until next Tuesday. Gradually from Wednesday, the intensity of rainfall eases, the weather stabilizes, temperatures rise, and for the first time in many days.
