WASM – Jordan is being affected by a "strong" heat wave that will continue for an extended period starting Friday and intensifying on Saturday and during the middle of next week, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius in wide areas of the Kingdom, and approaching 50 degrees Celsius in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, Aqaba, and low-lying areas.
Temperatures will rise slightly at the beginning of the heat wave on Thursday, with the maximum temperature in Amman around 34 degrees Celsius and the atmosphere becoming hotter than usual during the night of Thursday/Friday.
The heat wave begins on Friday with a noticeable rise in temperatures, reaching a maximum of around 36 degrees Celsius in the capital Amman, then rising on Saturday to 39-40 degrees Celsius in the capital, exceeding 45 degrees Celsius in low-lying areas, the Jordan Valley, and Aqaba, coinciding with hot and dry southeastern winds.
The strong heat wave coincides with dry weather and a temporary rise in humidity levels in the afternoon and evening periods, and also coincides with hot and oppressive nights. It is expected to continue intermittently, intensifying on some days and easing on others. WASM will issue all details about the heat wave and its expected retreat timing during the end of the first week of September, based on data from our advanced climate model at WASM and W.DMM technology that tracks the most accurate probabilities during the coming periods.

Jordan and countries in the region have been affected by consecutive hot days during the current month with temperatures notably higher than their averages for most days of August, with temperatures dropping yesterday, Monday, for the first time in 20 days to their usual summer levels, which is expected to be a temporary period ending on Thursday.
WASM recommends drinking fluids and wearing light-colored, loose clothing, also recommends operating air conditioning units at temperatures no lower than 22-24 degrees Celsius, and recommends not leaving sterilizing materials inside vehicles.
