Jordan | Weather Alert.. Sharp Weather Fluctuations on Sunday and Monday with Dusty Conditions and a "Strong Return of Winter" Later

WASM- The Kingdom will be affected by very sharp weather fluctuations on Sunday and Monday resulting from the formation of a dry atmospheric low-pressure system across northern Egypt accompanied by significant temperature variations and strong winds associated with dense dust at times and scattered light rain showers on Monday.

In detail, temperatures will rise noticeably on Sunday but coinciding with strong, dust-stirring winds and the appearance of clouds at medium and high altitudes, then temperatures will drop sharply and significantly by more than 15 degrees Celsius on the night of Sunday/Monday and on Monday with generally scattered light rain showers.

The weather will become cold and wintry from Monday through Thursday, coinciding with partially cloudy conditions and occasionally active winds with generally scattered light rain showers.

A polar wave approaches the Kingdom..
A "polar wave" is approaching the Kingdom, positioned over Turkey and Greece during the end of the week causing atmospheric disturbances followed by "large" amounts of rainfall later in the end of the week and beginning of next week. The impact of the polar wave is expected to increase significantly during mid-month, and these weather conditions are expected to cause a "strong and sudden return of winter."

This period is called "al-Mustaqrridhat" (interludes) where temperatures fluctuate with noticeable warming similar to warm spring followed by a strong and sudden return to winter usually accompanied by floods, torrents and possibly snow in some years. This is not an indicator of the end of winter as was widely circulated on social media and Jordanian local media outlets which continue to misunderstand the weather and climate conditions in the Kingdom.

The climate model at WASM was able to detect these sharp changes and detect the expected polar wave early, indicating the speed of weather changes during March which are usually deceptive and severe and cause significant losses due to lack of preparation for the weather conditions.

WASM recommends not abandoning winter clothing even if the weather is warm, and not planting any summer crops until the end of March due to expectations of the polar wave which will cause a significant temperature drop and large amounts of precipitation with temperatures approaching zero degrees Celsius in the mountains and a high probability of late black frost occurring.
