Jordan | Weather Alert: Strong and Severe Polar Wave Accompanied by Heavy Precipitation Beginning Thursday

WASM- The Kingdom will be affected starting Thursday by a "strong" polar wave with severe cold accompanied by heavy rainfall and snow showers on high mountain peaks, with sometimes heavy hail accumulation in many areas, especially on Friday, and temperatures will drop below freezing in many regions.

In detail, the Kingdom will be affected by rain showers on Tuesday evening, with rainfall renewing on Wednesday evening and the Wednesday/Thursday night ahead of the strong polar wave and severe cold, then a "deep-centered" atmospheric low will form northeast of Cyprus on Thursday accompanied by rainy conditions and active cold winds. Rainfall will intensify during Thursday evening and Thursday/Friday night with stormy and heavy rain conditions, especially in the north and center of the Kingdom and parts of the eastern desert region.

The Kingdom will be affected on Friday by stormy and extremely cold conditions with heavy rainfall and sometimes heavy hail accumulation, with snow showers falling on high mountain peaks, amid low temperatures dropping and approaching freezing, and rainfall and precipitation will extend towards the south of the Kingdom occurring as snow in the southern mountains, with conditions matching exactly what occurs during very cold days in the month of "January."

Rainfall and cold conditions are expected to continue on Saturday, then the polar wave will intensify again during mid-next week with dropping temperatures, intensifying precipitation, and increased chances of snow in many areas.

WASM Regional Center noted a delay in spring due to the continuation of active lows and winter storms and cold weather, which results from the strength of the current rainy season, and a slightly delayed start of Khamsin lows is expected compared to normal conditions.
