WASM- A strong heat wave will continue through the weekend with temperatures remaining at 40 degrees Celsius in wide areas of Jordan and exceeding 45 degrees Celsius in low-lying areas, the Jordan Valley, Aqaba, and the Dead Sea, while temperatures will remain around 36 degrees Celsius in the high mountains.
Humidity levels will rise noticeably on Saturday and Sunday with the continuation of the strong heat wave, temperatures in the capital Amman will record between 38-40 degrees Celsius, and moderate to high clouds will appear causing light limited rainfall in desert areas.
The intensity of the strong heat wave will ease on Sunday evening and Monday next, temporarily, but the atmosphere will remain very hot in many areas with high humidity.
The heat wave will intensify again in the middle of next week and reach its peak, with temperatures rising significantly in wide areas of the kingdom, which increases the exhausting feeling of the conditions due to the prolonged impact of the heat wave.
This strong heat wave began last Friday and is expected to continue for several more days, gradually subsiding during the end of the first week of September.
WASM advises following the warnings of the Jordanian Meteorological Department, drinking fluids continuously, avoiding direct sunlight, adjusting air conditioning devices to temperatures between 22-24 degrees Celsius, and not leaving children and the elderly inside vehicles while they are parked.
This heat wave has swept from northern Saudi Arabia towards Jordan directly and the areas east of the Mediterranean, which is expected to increase in intensity next week. Jordan has been affected this summer by successive and strong heat waves which are an extension of global heat waves that have caused forest fires around the world and melting ice in the Arctic region.
