WASM – The winter storm will intensify on Wednesday and Thursday, with heavy to very heavy rainfall continuing across various regions of the kingdom, especially in the north, center, and southwestern highlands. Snow will fall over high mountainous areas exceeding 1100 meters above sea level on the night of Wednesday/Thursday and Thursday morning, and will temporarily drop below these elevations.
In detail, heavy and near-continuous rainfall will persist in various areas, particularly in the north and center of the kingdom over the coming days, coinciding with the continuation of stormy winds with gusts exceeding 90 km/hour, amid low temperatures close to freezing in high mountains.
Snow will fall over high mountains exceeding 1100 meters above sea level on the night of Wednesday/Thursday and Thursday morning, covering the high peaks of the capital and the highlands of Ajloun, Jerash, Karak, Tafila, and Shobak mountains, with greater accumulation in the southern and northern regions of the kingdom compared to the capital's peaks, which are expected to record limited accumulations.
Precipitation will recede on Thursday evening and Friday with continued scattered rain showers at times. Freezing will occur in high mountains on the night of Thursday/Friday, especially in the southern and northern mountains of the kingdom.
Starting from next Saturday and continuing for several consecutive days, the winter storm will reach its peak strength with massive amounts of rainfall and accumulating snow falling over mountainous areas. Details will be announced soon, classifying the winter storm as "strong and unusual."
WASM issues a red alert level for weather conditions during the coming period due to large and unusual amounts of rainfall over the coming days, as well as strong winds, cold weather, and snow falling over mountains. WASM recommends continuously monitoring warnings from the Jordanian Meteorology Department and following guidance from the Civil Defense and Public Security due to severe weather conditions affecting the kingdom, which are expected to continue for an unusually long period.
