Ramadan 2023 Weather | Cold and Wintry in the First Half, Unstable Spring-like and Rainy in the Second Half

WASM – The current month of Ramadan is expected to be cold, wintry, and rainy, which has not occurred in many years due to the coincidence of the holy month with spring and summer seasons in previous years. Therefore, the current month of Ramadan is expected to be rainy and cold, with temperatures expected to improve and rise during the second half to approach their seasonal averages while precipitation continues but with a spring character (rainfall with warm weather).

With the occurrence of climate changes that have increased rainfall rates in Jordan and Middle Eastern countries and intensified weather conditions compared to previous years, WASM always recommends continuous monitoring of weather updates, especially during the upcoming period which is considered a transitional period where weather conditions intensify and chances of floods and sudden torrential rains increase.

The First Week of the Holy Month|
March 23 to March 29|

Temperatures will rise slightly at the beginning of this period then decrease significantly with very large amounts of rainfall in wide areas accompanied by the danger of torrential rains and floods.

The Second Week of the Holy Month|
March 30 to April 5|

Very cold and wintry, unusually so compared to this time of year, due to the region being affected by a very cold air mass of polar origin that is considered late-arriving, resulting in rainfall and very cold conditions.

The Third Week of the Holy Month|
April 6 to April 12|

The weather remains cold and rainy at the beginning of the period with expectations of active khamsin low pressure activity causing temperature fluctuations followed by heavy rainfall; towards the end of the period, temperatures begin to rise and the weather stabilizes.

The Fourth Week of the Holy Month|
April 13 to April 19|

Temperatures rise noticeably and the weather becomes warm and spring-like with seasonal temperatures. This period is suitable for planting all summer crops in mountainous areas and preparing for warmer weather conditions; however, this does not mean the end of the rainy season. Towards the end of this period, another khamsin low pressure approaches the kingdom and weather fluctuations return.

The Last Days of the Holy Month and Eid Period|
April 20 to April 25|

A khamsin low pressure system activates, temperatures rise then drop sharply, and heavy rainfall returns which will coincide with less cold weather conditions compared to previous rainy situations. This period is expected to be followed by sharp weather fluctuations and cases of spring weather instability with thunderstorm precipitation.

WASM recommends continuing to wear winter clothing for an extended period of the holy month, even if temperatures rise especially during the third and fourth weeks. The upcoming period is expected to be colder and rainier than usual, with vigilance against flood and sudden torrent cases and continuous monitoring of warnings from the Jordanian Meteorological Department.

This bulletin was issued using the results of the climate model at WASM Regional Center, which is considered the most accurate in the region for long-range forecasts and which uniquely predicted this cold, wintry, and rainy period despite the widespread information about the end of the rainy season and the beginning of spring through most local media outlets.

It is always recommended to follow daily weather bulletins, especially those from the Jordanian Meteorological Department as they will be more accurate and detailed as the time period approaches. Long-range weather bulletins such as these have a different character than daily bulletins; they only describe the general situation with an expectation of possible error margins in the time periods or intensity. WASM will continue to issue updates continuously, and we always recommend following our alerts, especially for the agricultural sector so that weather conditions do not cause significant losses.
