WASM- The WASM Regional Center is monitoring a powerful and rare Mediterranean storm (if not seasonally unprecedented) expected to affect the central and eastern Mediterranean region at the end of the week, which will directly strike northeastern Libya and northwestern Egypt, causing very large quantities of rain, stormy winds, and rough seas.
The Mediterranean storm is of the "subtropical" type under the classification Medicane- Subtropical Cyclone, which are storms that do not usually occur in the eastern Mediterranean region, occur rarely in its central parts, and are more common in the western Mediterranean region, and occur during months 10 and 11 in a few years concentrated in the western Mediterranean.
The development of the storm in a rare seasonal manner is an extremely rare occurrence at this time of year, and the expectation of its impact on northwestern Egypt and northeastern Libya is even rarer.
Details of the rare Mediterranean storm..
This storm is expected to begin developing over the central Mediterranean in the north and northeast of Libya at the end of this week, which will be accompanied by severely turbulent conditions with large and massive amounts of rainfall, turbulent sea waves, and stormy winds.
The storm is expected to gradually advance towards the eastern Mediterranean and in an unprecedented manner climatologically compared to this time of year, to directly strike the northwest Egypt region before mid-month.
The WASM Regional Center continues to monitor this storm that will strike a wide range of the central and eastern Mediterranean by the end of this week and the beginning of next week.
Jordan remains away from the impact of this storm..
Jordan and the Levant region remain away from the impact of this storm for the moment, and will cause significant fluctuations in temperatures at the end of this week in the form of a noticeable rise followed by a noticeable decrease at the beginning of next week, and the expectation of weather disturbances and rainfall showers in some areas during mid-month.
The presence of such strong Mediterranean storms over the eastern Mediterranean at this time of year is an alarming indicator of radical and severe climate changes that have begun to affect the region, and heat waves or dry spells are not considered an important event compared to these dangerous storms that will increase in the coming period.
Jordan and eastern Mediterranean countries and the Arabian Peninsula are expected to be affected by a strong and severely turbulent rainy season over the coming months resulting from unusual atmospheric circulation and strong climate changes affecting various countries of the world.
The WASM Regional Center is working to raise awareness about the dangerous climate changes affecting the Mediterranean and Jordan region, especially regarding large amounts of rainfall, floods, and increasing torrents in the Kingdom over recent years, which have caused an increase in rainfall quantities in many areas, especially central regions, to the extent of 60%, coinciding with the spread of rumors and misinformation in local media outlets which misunderstand climate changes and increase the risk and losses of weather conditions and floods on various sectors and local communities.
