WASM | A Strong Cold Wave Affects the Levant, Northern Saudi Arabia, and Iraq as Weather Conditions Stabilize, While the Highly Active Low-Pressure System Shifts Toward Large Parts of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Bahrain, Focusing on Riyadh and Al-Qassim

  1. The highly active low-pressure system has caused severe flooding and flash floods across several areas of Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq, and is expected to strongly affect extensive areas of Saudi Arabia.
  2. A moisture-rich tropical wave during the coming days will coincide with the early-season cold low-pressure system, leading to further heavy rainfall across large areas of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries, including the Riyadh Region, Al-Qassim, and the Eastern Province for the first time this season. Significant rainfall totals are expected.
  3. Another widespread and heavy regional rainfall event associated with a strong tropical wave is being monitored for later in the month after mid-November. Detailed Forecast by Region and Country

Details of the Low-Pressure System

The influence of the highly active low-pressure system is gradually diminishing across the Levant, Iraq, and northern Saudi Arabia, while a strong and unusually early cold wave is advancing into the region, causing temperatures to fall below 5°C in several areas.

Meanwhile, the low-pressure system is shifting toward central and eastern Saudi Arabia, as well as Qatar and Bahrain, with its primary focus on Riyadh and Al-Qassim during the coming days through the end of the week. The system is expected to bring substantial rainfall accumulations and a heightened risk of flash flooding.

Saudi Arabia, the Gulf Region, and the Arabian Peninsula

Temperatures are expected to drop significantly across northern and northwestern Saudi Arabia as the influence of the low-pressure system retreats northward, allowing unusually early winter conditions to develop.

Heavy rainfall activity is expected to deepen across central and eastern Saudi Arabia during the coming days, focusing on Riyadh, Al-Qassim, and the Eastern Province, particularly on Tuesday and Wednesday, before renewing again toward the end of the week.

Successive severe rainfall events are expected to continue across the region over the coming weeks. Another powerful rainfall event is being monitored for later in the month, focusing on western Saudi Arabia. Further details will be announced soon.

The Levant

The influence of the low-pressure system is gradually weakening, while a strong and seasonally unusual cold wave spreads across the region, lowering temperatures in mountainous and lowland areas to below 5°C, with even lower readings expected over higher elevations.

Scattered rain showers are possible in some areas toward the end of the week. Another heavy rainfall event is being monitored for later in the month after mid-November.

Jordan

The influence of the highly active low-pressure system is gradually receding from the Kingdom, and weather conditions are becoming more stable. However, temperatures are expected to fall sharply as an unusually early winter cold wave develops, bringing nighttime temperatures down to around 5°C in mountainous and lowland areas.

Limited rain showers are expected toward the end of the week while cold conditions persist, followed by a noticeable rise in temperatures.

A heavy rainfall event is expected later in the month after mid-November, preceded by a marked warming trend and a temporary return of milder conditions.

Syria

The influence of the low-pressure system is weakening, leaving very cold weather behind, with nighttime temperatures dropping below 5°C in both mountainous and lowland regions.

Scattered showers are expected toward the end of the week, particularly along coastal areas, followed by a notable increase in temperatures.

A heavy rainfall event is expected later in the month after mid-November, preceded by a noticeable warming trend and temporary mild weather.

Palestine

The influence of the highly active low-pressure system is gradually diminishing, while an early winter cold wave affects the region, lowering temperatures to below 8°C.

Scattered showers are expected toward the end of the week across different areas, while the cold weather continues before temperatures begin rising again.

Another significant rainfall event is expected later in the month after mid-November, with further details to be announced soon.

Lebanon

The influence of the highly active low-pressure system is gradually fading, but very cold and unseasonal conditions are expected to persist.

Rain showers are likely to redevelop toward the end of the week, followed by a rise in temperatures.

Heavy rainfall is expected to return later in the month after mid-November.

Iraq

Weather conditions are expected to remain generally stable through the end of the week, accompanied by a substantial drop in temperatures as an early-season cold wave affects the country.

Heavy rainfall events are expected to continue affecting Iraq, with several strong and highly active peaks anticipated, particularly after mid-November.
