WASM - The Arabian Sea is affected by high tropical activity that resulted in the formation of a tropical storm named Shaheen. It is expected to develop into a Category 1 hurricane and move toward eastern Oman to impact the capital Muscat on Saturday evening and surrounding areas, causing floods, torrents, strong winds and high sea waves.
This tropical storm is expected to move toward southern United Arab Emirates on Sunday and impact several areas before heading toward the southern basin of the Arabian Gulf in a "very rare" path.
The tropical storm is expected to transform into a Category 1 hurricane with wind speeds reaching 70-75 knots (130 km/hour) and impact several Arab countries in a rare path that has not occurred before.
Omani and Saudi meteorological services issued warnings about the tropical storm, with these government centers monitoring the storm and its expected impacts.
WASM Regional Center issued several alerts regarding the high tropical activity in the Arabian Sea due to elevated temperatures in those areas, and issued the red alert level for weather conditions in those areas. The center continues to monitor the tropical storm continuously and around the clock.
