Typical Summer Weather Notably Absent from the Levant

WASM- The Levant has been recording temperatures below the usual seasonal averages for the past month, and at levels closer to spring, which is a rare occurrence as a result of successive strong and record-breaking heat waves across the European continent.

With the analysis of surface maps, a sharp retreat of the Indian monsoon low pressure center towards the Arabian Peninsula was observed, accompanied by the advancement of westerly and northwesterly winds with moderate-temperature air masses that typically settle over the Mediterranean during summer.

These moderate air masses have become much stronger than usual due to continuous feeding by cold winds from northeast and east Europe, causing moderate weather closer to spring conditions.

The temperatures recorded during month 5 were the coldest in 33 years in the Levant region and about 2 degrees Celsius below seasonal averages, where the region witnessed very rare winter cold waves that caused rainfall and active atmospheric depressions.

With the beginning of the summer solstice, temperatures remain below seasonal averages by approximately 2-4 degrees Celsius across the various regions of the Levant due to an abnormal rotational movement of the atmosphere.

Temperatures in the Levant remain below seasonal averages by approximately 2-4 degrees Celsius despite the beginning of summer astronomically and meteorologically, and rising heat globally and regionally!!

Intense heat waves across the European continent|
Europe continues to be affected by extremely severe and record-breaking heat waves, causing exceptional temperatures that will reach 45 degrees Celsius in France, breaking previous records in some areas.

The strong heat waves in Europe result from a severe deviation of jet streams in the upper atmosphere towards the Atlantic Ocean, where WASM Regional Center recently issued an important study on the scientific reasons for this.

Record-breaking heat waves continue towards the European continent in an unprecedented manner in modern climate records, met by a complete absence of usual summer conditions in the Levant!

Forecasts during the summer|
Heat waves are expected to intensify further towards Europe, especially during the coming month, with severe heat waves continuing in succession in an exceptional and unprecedented manner since the beginning of modern climate records, keeping the Levant region in the path of more moderate air masses.

The continuation of moderate weather in the Levant will be met with further delays in seasonal rainfall in southwest Arabia due to the containment of the monsoon low pressure center towards the east and south more than usual, but with the advancement of summer, this rainfall will begin with much greater intensity than usual, especially during August.

Temperatures in the Levant region will sometimes approach their seasonal averages during the coming weeks while remaining below them, but are expected to exceed them slightly for a short period during the second week of August according to our developed and high-precision climate model data

The deviation of the jet stream away from Europe caused successive strong heat waves towards the European continent and the absence of usual summer weather in the Levant
