WASM Regional Center – A very long‑lasting regional rainfall event is expected to affect the region, bringing significant rainfall amounts.

WASM – A long‑lasting regional rainfall event is expected, God willing, to affect the Middle East, focusing on northern, northwestern, and western Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, all regions of the Levant, and northern Egypt. This rainfall event begins at the end of this week and intensifies, covering wide areas during the second half of next week.

Beginning of the Rainfall Event

The rainfall event begins on Friday and Saturday over western and northern Saudi Arabia, including the Hail region, Al‑Jawf, the Northern Borders, Al‑Madinah, and northwestern Al‑Qassim and surrounding areas. Thunderstorm rainfall will also affect eastern Jordan, its northeastern parts, and various regions of Syria.

Thunderstorms will be heavy at times in these areas, with risks of flash‑flood formation, strong winds, dust‑raising conditions, and sandstorms.

Deepening and Intensification of the Rainfall Event

The rainfall event intensifies and deepens with the development of a deep low‑pressure system over the eastern Mediterranean basin and northern Egypt, accompanied by equatorial moist waves, during the second half of next week.

The deepening of the rainfall event will focus on northwestern and western Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and all regions of the Levant—including Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon—with elevated risks of flash‑flood formation.

A “Very Long‑Lasting” Rainfall Event

Unusually, the rainfall event is expected to persist for a very long period starting at the end of this week. It will initially focus on northern and western Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the Levant, and Kuwait, then expand toward many regions in central and eastern Saudi Arabia, while continuing over the Levant, Iraq, and northern and western Saudi Arabia.

Most Affected Regions

Data received by the Wasm Regional Center from its W.DMM model for medium‑ and long‑range periods—supported by climate‑model outputs—indicate that the most affected regions will be:

  1. Northern and western Saudi Arabia, extending into its northeastern parts
  2. The northern and western portions of central Saudi Arabia
  3. Kuwait
  4. Iraq
  5. All regions of the Levant, including Jordan, Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon
  6. Northern Egypt

All updates will be issued progressively.
